Agricultural year means the year commencing on the first day of july and ending on 30 day of june .The term has been interpreted to be synonymous with Fasli year .

When the king Akbar’s reign begun , he desired to adopt an universal official year, which should correspond to the harvest season better than Hijri year (with its changing lunar months ) or the hindu samvant year era. He begun with 1555(AD) ,and it was arbitrarily called it “Fasli 963” . He begun the Hijri year of his ascending the throne . To find this era you have to deduct 592 or 593 according to the month, from the year (AD) used for all revenue accounts .

The fasli year is not reckoned as month or date. The year begins on someday when the climate of that state may rendered convenient.

In Uttar Pradesh it begins on the first day of July and ends on 30th of June. The Collection of land revenue , the payment of rent, surrender of land , ejectment of land etc are made and calculated from the commencement of the fasli year

 

How it is Calculated

If one wants to ascertain the fasli year, he should deduct between 593. For Example

on October 1 ,2003 the fasli year is 2003-592= 1401

On February 1 ,1994 the Fasli year is 1994-593=1401
